Obituary of Jane Hebner Bowie Kiger

Jane Hebner Bowie Kiger, 88, of Morgantown passed away Wednesday April 16, 2014 at home surrounded by her family following a brief illness. She was the matriarch of a large blended and extended family dearly loved by many. She was born in Flintstone, MD August 12, 1925 to Herbert and Leola Bennett Hebner. She was a graduate of Fort Hill HS in Cumberland, MD. She moved to Baltimore after graduation and worked for the Maryland division of Farmer's Home Administration. There were always tales of riding the streetcar to work and wartime rationings. She moved to Morgantown working as the administrative assistant to Robert Bennett, AIA for more than 50 years. She was a founding and currently active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She served on the board of Morgantown Mental Health Association where she chaired Operation Santa Claus for many years with her dear friend Sylvia Chico. In her younger years she enjoyed Beau Monde Dance club, was an avid bridge player, a talented seamstress and loved to travel especially with family. Jane is survived by her family, most residing in Morgantown. Kay Bowie (David) Kelly, Jan Bowie (Carol Tannous) Kiger, Michael Bowie, step children Vaughn (Meredith) Kiger and Patricia Kiger (Terry) Morgan, Scott (Donna) Bowie of North Carolina and Robert (Mary Ann) Bowie of Florida; grandchildren Trish Morgan, Brian Kelly, Heather Morgan Angerer, Adrian Kiger(Don) Olmstead, Elliott (Morgan) Kiger-Sorvillo, Carter Kelly, Miles Kiger and Ted (Amanda) Morgan; great grandchildren Levi and Paige Kelly, Connor Kelly, Emmaline and Jack Angerer, Maeve Morgan-Dowling and Marlin Olmstead. In addition to her parents she was preceeded in death by the love of her life Willis Kiger, sister Ruth Johnson, brother Jack (Audrey) Hebner and her dear friend Bill Buseman. She will be remembered by all for her spunk and her love of life. And of course her hats. In accordance with Jane's wishes, she has been cremated. The family will receive friends at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Tuesday, April 22nd for a memorial gathering from 3-7 PM. A celebration of Jane's life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 247 Willey St., Morgantown, on Saturday, May 10th at 11 AM with Father Mike Hadaway officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Inurnment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Cumberland, MD at a later date.
