Please share a memory of Margaret Mary "Peggy" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Lavell “Peggy” Isaack – local Morgantown artist – passed away early June 30, 2014 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She has taken her last paint brush stroke of God’s earth and has gone to join her husband to praise God. June 30 is her husband Tom’s birthday that they will be celebrating together. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband Tom Isaack, sisters and brothers Betty Lavell Wagner, Bob Lavell, Jr., Jackie Lavell Fey, Pat Lavell and Bill Lavell. Peggy’s children gathered to be with her as she prepared to pass from this earth. These survivors include Terry Isaack Knight (husband John Knight), Libby Isaack, Mike Isaack, Steve Isaack (wife Suzanne Bowers Isaack), and Matthew Isaack. Other survivors include Peggy’s two youngest sisters Joan Lavell O’Connor (husband Jack O’Connor) and Carol Lavell Proudfit. She is also survived by three grandchildren Jackie Knight, Kegan Isaack, and Kylie Isaack. Peggy knew from childhood that she wanted to be an artist. Her family encouraged her in this pursuit. She had an interest in wildflowers long before they became a subject of her paintings. Her childhood nickname from her father was Wildflower. There are several samples of her drawings from her early years contained in scrapbooks. Peggy graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S in Applied Arts and a B.S. in Art Education. She taught Art at Morgantown High School before starting her family. She then re-entered the teaching world after her youngest child started school. She taught Art at St. Francis de Sales High School for 17 years before retiring. She was also a freelance artist. She taught a class at Heritage Point in her later years. Peggy felt that if you have the interior drive to express yourself in painting and other forms of art, no other activity can satisfy this need. She was among founders of Morgantown Art Association. She was a juried artist in a number of West Virginia shows. She also was involved in the start of Morgantown Art Center. Peggy was an active supporter of Catholic Education in Morgantown. She also was a very active alumna of the WVU chapter of Kappa Delta sorority. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Wednesday, July 2 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The body will be moved and friends will be received at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, July 3, from 10-11 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. John V. Dibacco as celebrant. Burial will be held in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic School, 41 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
