Obituary of Richard Allen Goodwin

Richard A. Goodwin, 77, of Morgantown, WV passed away on September 15, 2014, of natural causes. He was born February 2, 1937 to the late Harry and Anna Goodwin. He was proud to serve his country for the U.S. Army (’57-’60) where he served in Korea. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lavenia (Aitken) Goodwin, his daughters Rhonda Shahan (and husband Gary), Shea Lee Angotti (and husband John), and Ashlee Goodwin; his two sons, Richard Goodwin, Jr. (and wife Jennifer) and Sean Goodwin (and wife Erina); his ten grandchildren, Julia, Leah and Vincent Shahan; Allie and Sam Angotti; Blake and Charli Goodwin; Grace and Riley Goodwin; and Cooper Lazzell; and his eight great-grandchildren who were the highlights of his life -- especially at the annual Easter Egg Hunt. He is also survived by four sisters and three brothers. A sister and brother preceded him in death. The family would like to thank Dr Stan Schmidt and Amedisys Hospice (especially Kristen) for their kindness and excellent care during Rich’s final days. In lieu of flowers, Rich requested the contributions in his memory be made to one of the following charities: Animal Friends of NCWV, 252 Brewer Road, Morgantown, WV 26508 or St. Ursula Food Pantry & Outreach, PO Box 18, Pursglove, WV 26546. Family and friends will be received at St. Mary Catholic Church in Star City on Wednesday, September 17 from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday, September 18 from 10:00 AM until the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11: 00 AM. with Fr.
