Vaughn David (Choppy) Pirlo, Sr., 80, went home to be with his Lord, surrounded by his children and family on October 13, 2014. Vaughn was born in Greer, WV on March 20, 1934 to the late Francisco “Frank” and Minnie Pirlo. Vaughn served in the U. S. Army form 1951-1955. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post #548 in Morgantown and is a life member of the Disabled American Veteran (DAV), Snake State #14. Vaughn also belonged to the American Legion Post #0174 in Morgantown. Vaughn was a devoted Christian, loving father and husband. He retired from Greer Limestone Company in 1982. Vaughn loved spending time with his family at Rocky Creek Park named after his deceased son (Vaughn’s home-place for more than 35 years, off Tyrone Road). Vaughn loved the great state of West Virginia; he liked camping and fishing and never lost his sense of adventure, parasailing at the age of 76 with his daughter and his companion, Ginger. Vaughn is survived by his first wife and current caregiver, Helen V. (Ginger) Metheny Forman; one daughter Rena (Pirlo) Perozich and husband Joe from Fairmont; three sons; Vaughn (David) Pirlo, Jr. and wife Debbie (Templeton) from Meza, AZ; Russell (Rusty) Pirlo and wife Mary Ann (Gray) from Morgantown; Timothy Pirlo and wife Polly (Lingg) from Melbourne, FL; step-son, Robert (Bob) Ritchey and wife Debbie from Carmichaels, PA; step-daughters, Rella Sue Demmons from OH; Sally Maloney from OH; two brothers; Fred Pirlo and Louie Pirlo of Dellslow and one sister, Diana Martin-Hayes of OH; and grandchildren, Kirk Pirlo, Michele Perozich, Kent Pirlo, Jodi Phillips, Crystal Anderson, Katie Pirlo, Kasey Opel, Kara Pirlo, Alyssa Pirlo, Jacob Pirlo, Heather Mercer, Sunshine Glance, Debra Oakleaf, BJ (Billy) Maloney, Jeff Maloney, Jenny Ritchey and Blair Ritchey; and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Vaughn was preceded in death by his second wife, Deloris Jean Ritchey-Pirlo; son, Rocky Pirlo, brothers Tony and Pete Pirlo and three sisters, Jean Sylvester, Linda Quince, Shirley Dibell and a granddaughter Amy Perozich and step-daughter, Gloria Januzzi. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 7-9 P.M. Sunday, and Oct. 19 from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday, Oct. 20 from 10:00a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ray Frankhouser officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hills Cemetery with full military honors.
