Margaret Gertrude (Dorn) Schmezer, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at John Manchin Senior Healthcare Center of Fairmont, WV at the age of 99. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 3, 1915 to Eva Marie (Wolf) Dorn and John Dorn. She grew up in Pittsburgh and married George P. Schmezer, Sr. at St. Martin de Torres Church in Pittsburgh’s West End. After moving to Morgantown WV in 1960, she worked at Morgantown Glass until it closed, then Seneca Glass until its closure, and at the Hotel Morgan as a night clerk. She then kept books for the Senior Monongalians and ran their bingo games every Wednesday for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son Paul, her siblings, Sophia Seldon, Emma Slavin, John Dorn, Mary Potter, Frederick Dorn, Bill Dorn, Elizabeth McCormick, Louis Dorn, two twins who died in the 1918 influenza epidemic, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by and loved her sister Eleanor Freiss, her brother Gerard Dorn, her son George P. Schmezer, Jr. and wife Mary (McCullum) Schmezer, and her daughter Helene (Schmezer) Headley and her husband Larry Headley. She is also survived by and took great pride in her granddaughters Rachel Headley (husband Chris Hill) and Rebecca Headley (fiancé Kevin D’Agostino) and numerous nieces and nephews. Canine companions Wicket and Luke, as well as felines Cricket and Tika, were special to her. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at the John Manchin Sr Health Center where she lived for several years, Sister Phyllis Carpenter (retired), and Sister Stella Cronauer of Immaculate Conception Church in Fairmont. Memorial donations may be made to the Monongalia County Humane Society, P.O. Box 390, Morgantown, WV 26507 or to the Morgantown Public Library, 373 Spruce St., Morgantown WV 26505 with funds going to the Large Print Book Collection, or to a charity of one’s choice. Friends and family will be received at St. Francis de Sale Catholic Church, One Guthrie Lane, Morgantown on Saturday, January 31st from 10AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati as celebrant. A private committal service will take place at a later date at the St. Martin Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA.
