Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Whipkey, of Cheat Neck, Morgantown, West Virginia passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, October 4th surrounded by her family. She was 89 years old. Dottie was born on January 30, 1926 in Morgantown, WV as the daughter of the late Ellis C. Fowler and Goldie H. (Everly) Fowler. She married Lester J. Whipkey, the love of her life, on December 5, 1942, The were blessed with 52 wonderful years together. Dottie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. An active member of the community throughout her life, Dottie was the owner of Dottie's Country Crafts and Gifts, L.J Whipkey LLC and Whipkey Ltd. She also belonged to NCWVHBA and was president of the auxiliary. She was a member of Quota International, Morgantown Club and was a past president. As a life member of the Mon General Auxiliary, Dottie volunteered in the earlier years at the coffee shop and later at the gift shop. She was also a Charter member of the Cheat Lake Homemakers Club. Dottie was a member of Cheat Lake Methodist Church and WSCS and attended church routinely until recent years due to illness. Dottie is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Marie Bowers and her son-in-law, Robert J. Bowers; her three grandchildren, Dr. Robert J. Bowers II and his wife Camille, Cynthia Marie Bowers Goodnight, and Dr. Jill Bowers Glover and her husband Derek. She is also survived by six great grandchildren: Alexandra, Lydia, and Isabella Bowers; Jacob and Tyler Goodnight; and Maya Glover. Also surviving are four brothers, Edgar Fowler Sr., Willis Fowler and wife Sharon and Eldon Fowler (all from Morgantown) and Emil Fowler, Sr. of Pisgah, WV. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her eldest brother, Theodore Fowler. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street Morgantown, Wednesday, October 7th from 4-8pm. Visitation will continue on Thursday, October 8th from 10am until the time of funeral service at 11am with Pastor Shawn Frasher and Chaplain Brian Detrick officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be sent to C.L.U.M. Church, 750 Fairchance Rd. Morgantown, WV 26508.
