Alan William Hood

Alan Hood, of Morgantown, passed away on October 14, 2020 at the age of 76. Alan was born in Morgantown to Margaret Lutes Holden and William Hood. Alan was a 1962 graduate of Morgantown High School. After graduation, he attended Allegheny Technical Institute in Pittsburgh, PA, and every weekend, he would hitch hike to Morgantown to see his high school sweetheart, Kathie Lyons. He married her on April 24, 1964. Two years later to the day, their only child, Lesley, was born. Over the years he worked for Westover TV, Browns Lumber, O.C. Cluss Lumber, and the Seneca Center. Alan loved fishing and traveled to Canada, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, and Florida on fishing trips with friends and family. In his spare time, he made beautiful pieces of handmade furniture for family and friends. Alan was the president of the Morgantown Area Neighborhood Watch for many years. He had also volunteered for the Morgantown Police Department. Alan is survived by his daughter, Lesley Hood Fleckenstein of Pittsburgh, PA; his son-in-law Dave, his grandchildren Shannon Elizabeth and David James, his sister-in-law, Carol Hood of Charlottesville, VA., and his best friend of over 60 years, Jerry Hall. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kathie Hood (wife), John Hood (brother), and his two nephews, David and Mark. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Ghulam Abbas and his Physician Assistant, Chris, at WVU Medicine for the treatment and care they provided Alan over the last three years, and Jana at Suncrest Pharmacy for dropping off his medicine on her way home from work. Additionally, the family would like to thank the volunteers at Morgantown Area Meals on Wheels for tailoring his meals to meet his dietary challenges. A private memorial service was held at Hastings Funeral Home with Sandy Bigelow officiating.
