Alta Mundell

Alta Marie Mundell 95 of Morgantown passed away Tuesday, October 18th, 2016. She was born May 24th, 1921 in Morgantown to the late Walter S. and Lilly Huffman Bigelow. She was raised on the Bigelow farm outside of Morgantown, on the Goshen Road and attended Morgantown High School. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward. She married John W. Mundell on December 18, 1948 and started her family. Prior to retirement she worked as head cashier and bookkeeper at the WVU Med Center Business Office. After retirement she served for many years on the Monongalia County election polls. She was a long time member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and sang in the Choir for several years. She loved cooking and entertaining her family and friends in her lovely little home. She was loved by all of her family, friends, neighbors and anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by two daughters. Janet M. DeVault and husband Thomas, Mary V. Reitz and husband Robert, four Grandsons: John F. DeVault, Brian S. DeVault and wife Ashley, Casey Reitz and wife Naomi, Patrick Reitz and wife Niki, seven Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her husband John W. Mundell; sisters: Maude Hervey, Pauline Burns, Blanch Cosner, Dorothy Smyth, Virginia Jenkins; brothers: Don Bigelow, Grant Bigelow, Frank Bigelow, and several brother and sister-in-laws. Alta’s life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 309 Baldwin St, Morgantown, on Saturday, November 12th at 1pm, with Pastor Gerald Kliner officiating. A luncheon hosted by the Church Bereavement Committee to follow. Interment well be at Mount Union Cemetery at a later date.
