Barbara Ann Michaud, age 90, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026. She was born on November 17, 1935 to the late Milbert and Opal Uphold.
Barbara was tough, honest, and stubborn. She always had her own way of doing things, and she wasn’t afraid to tell you what she thought. But underneath that strong personality was someone who was warm, understanding, and incredibly loving. She was the matriarch of the family and someone everyone could count on.
Barbara grew up in West Virginia, and when she was old enough to work, she moved to Florida. That’s where she met the love of her life, Steve, on a bus, where he happened to be the driver. They fell in love, got married, and built their life together. They raised their two children, Janice and Stevie, in Florida before moving back to Barbara’s roots in West Virginia in 1980. Country roads, take me home.
Barbara spent much of her life taking care of other people. She did it through her nursing career, and she did it every day at home as a wife and mother. Steve and her kids were her world. She loved her family fiercely and, perhaps even more than that, she loved spoiling them.
When she and Steve were younger, they enjoyed getting out, socializing, and spending time with friends. Later in life, Barbara was happier living a slower, quieter life. She was the queen of “do what you can when you can” and “take one day at a time.” She found happiness in the little things: a cold glass of iced tea, unicorns, paint-by-numbers, and coloring on her iPad.
Barbara had a strong personality, a big heart, and a way of doing things that was uniquely hers. She spent her life caring for the people she loved, and her family will carry that love with them.
She will be missed more than words can say, but her stories, her stubbornness, her love, and all the little things that made her Barbara will stay with the people who knew and loved her.
A private graveside service will take place at the West Virginia National Cemetery.
