Brenda Carolyn Shafer

Brenda Carolyn Shafer, 84, of Mt. Morris, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born in Minneapolis, MN, a daughter of the late Dr. Hugh and Wilma (Stewart) Shafer.

She was a graduate of the University and Pennsylvania and was employed as a Medical Research Assistant at the University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. She moved to Maryland to work at the National Institute of Health and the Food and Drug Administration in Bethesda.

Although she spent her career in the medical field, he greatest joy in life was music. In the Philadelphia area, she studied violin and played in the Symphony and Chamber Music ensembles. In Maryland, she joined the Maryland Chorus and Chamber Singers, performing locally at the Kennedy Center, the White House, the National Cathedral, and in Baltimore and New York. The groups also performed internationally with symphonies in London, Berlin, Moscow, Dresden, and at music festivals in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Hall, Germany, and Salzburg, Austria. In retirement, she moved to the Morgantown area to take care of her parents.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Shafer. She is survived by her niece, Joy (Francis) Bruton of Coatesville, PA.

Friends and family will be received at St. Thomas a Becket Episcopal Church, 75 Old Cheat Rd., Morgantown, on Friday, May 16th, from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Michael Delk officiating. Interment at Olive Cemetery will take place at a later time.
