Carolyn D. Hoopengarner

Carolyn D. Hoopengarner, 82, passed away July 7, 2025, at the Madison Center in Morgantown. Born on May 17, 1943, in Morgantown, she dedicated many years of her life to serving others. She worked many years in the food service industry at WVU Hospitals, where her kindness and dedication positively influenced others.

Described as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carolyn took great pride in her family, and her legacy lives on in her family.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Stephen Hoopengarner, Virgil (Linda) Hoopengarner, Deborah Baker, Kathy (Bobby) Baker, and Henry Hoopengarner; former daughter-in-law, Kerri Hoopengarner; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who will forever remember her for her nurturing spirit and unwavering support.

In addition to her mother, Beatrice Nicholson, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred S. Hoopengarner; siblings, Allen Nicholson, William D. Nicholson, Barbara Funk, and Brenda Neely; and her beloved dog, Waylon.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Friday, July 11th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Willard Rowan officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory may be made to the Monongalia County Humane Society, PO Box 390, Morgantown, WV 26507.
