Challen “Donald” Summers, 93, of Morgantown, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born in Fairmont, WV, on December 11, 1932, a son of the late Ellis Donovan and Elva Ellen (Wilson) Summers.
His career over the years included working for the Soil Conservation Service as well as working as a Federal Mine inspector with the Office of Surface Mining. For 40 years, he served as an EMT Instructor. He volunteered as an EMT for Valley Ambulance Service and worked as a Standardized Patient with WV STEPS.
Donald was a faithful member of the Howesville Church of Christ. He was also known as an avid outdoorsman to include both hunting and fishing as well as farming. His hobbies included over the years playing in an organ group playing at nursing homes.
He was known as a loving and devoted father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather.
Those whom he has left to cherish his memories include his children, Karen Weyrich, Donna Lynn (Steven) Acuff , Dan (Caroline) Summers, Jeanette Smith and Faye Brinkley; his grandchildren, Sean (Vika) Weyrich, Chad (Babs) Weyrich, Kendra Weyrich and Dustin (Lisa) Acuff, Lisa Summers (Drew) Gilbert, Aaron (Brittany) Smith, Heather Smith (Matt) Harris, Brittany Brinkley, Corey Brinkley, and Jesse Brinkley; great grandchildren, Gregory, David and Yaromir Weyrich, Sebastian and Aria Acuff, Lillianna and Maia Gilbert and Isla and Challen Smith; sister, Mary Ellen; sister-in-law: Carolyn “Susie” White; brother-in-law, Henry White along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded by his loving wife of 63 years, Glenda White Summers; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Harold Mobley; and son-in-law, Jeff Weyrich.
Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, on Wednesday, May 27th from 2:00pm-7:00pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Thursday, May 28th from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am with Glen Gilbert officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place at Halleck Cemetery in Morgantown.
For those who wish to express sympathy, a memorial donation in memory of Donald Summers may be made to the WVU Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) Center (Donate Now). Flowers are also welcome.
