Christopher James Boland, 38, of Morgantown, WV unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Born December 30, 1986, in Cape May, New Jersey to Bill and Carol Boland, Chris was a son, brother, loving husband, foster father, avid cyclist, devoted environmentalist, and passionate community supporter.

Chris graduated from Middle Township High School and, on a football scholarship, attended Bethany College where he graduated cum laude with a BA in Accounting. He became a die-hard Mountaineer fan while earning an MA in Accountancy from West Virginia University and working full-time in the WVU Office of Student Accounts. He left WVU for an opportunity to work in a large accounting firm in Washington, DC. for 10 years before returning to Morgantown. He was working at WVU Innovation Corporation at the time of his passing.

He met the love of his life and wife of 14 years, Courtney Teets Boland, their first weekend at Bethany College. He proposed after graduation, married two years later and they have been inseparable ever since. Recently, they became foster parents.

Always a passionate community supporter, Chris served many organizations in college including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Parkinson Forest Trail System and many Greek Life service projects. After college he served as treasurer of several clubs including Mon Valley Homeless Initiative. While living in the DC area, he actively supported the local Leukemia and Lymphoma Chapter, Rotary, Salvation Army, Friends of Mount Vernon Trail, and Northern Virginia Community College service projects. Upon his return to Morgantown, he quickly joined the Downtown Rotary Club and the Greenmont Neighborhood Association where he currently served as President and Co-President respectively. He also supported Morgantown NOW, Mon River Trails and was a coach for Girls on the Run.

Chris also enjoyed sustainable living, gardening (especially starting the Greenmont Community Garden), kickball (Naughty Yachties, oy oy oy), trail cleanups, hiking, dogs, and mostly cycling. He enjoyed all aspects of cycling from bike maintenance to training for races to just talking about bikes.

In addition to his wife and parents, Chris is survived by his brothers Bill (Anna), Mick (May) and Pat Boland, his in-laws Marvin and Cindy Teets, Joshua (Shelby) Teets, and Meghan (Kevin) Likens, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, close friends and the entire cycling community.

Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with cremation arrangements.
