Clyde English

Dr. Clyde Neville English died Friday, June 18th at the Madison Center. He had been a long time resident of Heritage Point in Morgantown. He was born June 21, 1915, to the late Clyde R. English and Minnie Hardt English in Wildwood, PA and was raised in Glenshaw, a small town north of Pittsburgh. Two brothers, Myrle English and Ray Harper English and a sister Janet English Williams preceded him in death. He was married to Grace Metzger English of Pittsburgh, PA from 1937-1983 and to Mary-Jane Baker Schuster English of Morgantown, WV from 1983-2002 both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by several nephews and nieces. His closest relatives are his step-daughter, Amy-Ann Schuster Richardson (Mrs. Rayman P.) of Fairmont, WV and his step-son Dr. J. Charles Schuster and wife Kathy of Ft. Collins, CO and their families. He graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University with a BA degree and has two degrees in Organ from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. For 35 years he was a Professor of Music and head of the Organ Department at WVU. As a world renowned organ recitalist, he gave many recitals in the Eastern US and Europe including Chicago, Dallas, London and Paris at the Notre Dame Cathedral. He was former Dean of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Dr. Englishâs wishes for cremation have been honored by Hastings Funeral Home. A memorial service will be announced at a later date pending the arrival of out of town relatives.
