David Vaughn Watkins, 64, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was born January 1, 1962, in Morgantown to Shirley (Lewis) Watkins Hill and the late David Ashby Watkins.
A proud graduate of Morgantown High School in 1979, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, specializing as a refrigeration and diesel mechanic. This foundational military experience propelled him into a career where he showcased his mechanical talents further, first at Swanson Plating in Morgantown and later in various construction trades, including HVAC and roofing. His work ethic and skill set contributed to projects that left a lasting impact on the communities he served.
David is remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the love and warmth he shared with those around him. He is survived by his devoted mother, Shirley Hill; a brother, Daniel Hill of Morgantown; a brother, Randy Hill (JoAnn) of Fairmont; a sister, Tamara Hill Saab (Mike) of Morgantown; and a special aunt, Debbie DeWitt. Additionally, he leaves behind cousins, Derek Downs, Kristin Kremer, Jason Lewis, Justin Lewis, Jared DeWitt and Adam DeWitt; along with several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Mr. Kitty.
In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by his stepfather, Raymond R. Hill; maternal grandparents, Vaughn and Dollie Lewis; and paternal grandparents, David Alexander and Anna Merle Watkins.
The memory of David Vaughn Watkins will remain a cherished part of the lives he touched.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Sunday, February 15th from 1:00pm until the time of the funeral service at 4:00pm with Pastor Bart Thompson officiating.
Interment at Terra Alta Cemetery in Terra Alta,WV will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to Friends of the Cheat, 1343 N. Preston Highway, Kingwood, WV 26537.
