Deborah Kay Felton, 71, of Morgantown, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
She was born on October 16, 1954, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Donald and Ethel Ayersman.
Deborah spent her career in education as a schoolteacher, where she taught history and social studies. She was a longtime member of Fairview United Methodist Church and later attended Avery United Methodist Church.
She found great joy in making crafts, traveling and spending time with her family, and especially her granddaughter. Deborah was known for her kind, thoughtful, and generous spirit. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and made a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know her.
Throughout her life, Deborah generously gave her time as a volunteer with numerous organizations, including Animal Friends, Make-A-Wish, and The Special Olympics. Her compassion and commitment to serving others reflected the values by which she lived every day.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Bruce Felton; son, Bryan Felton; daughter, Brooke (Howard) Mearns; granddaughter, Neva Mearns; sister Kim (Brad) Calandrelli; several nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends Pat Stemple and Cindy Parker.
In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald Ayersman; Donald Ayersman; and Ricky Ayersman; and sisters, Dolly McRobie and Rose Murray.
The family would like to give a special thank you to April Chenoweth for her kindness and support in Deborah’s final hours.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Hastings Funeral Home.
Family and friends will be received at Avery United Methodist Church, 152 Cheat Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508, on Saturday, July 11, from 10:00 am until the time of the memorial service at noon with Rev. John Brosky officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
