Dennis James Summers

Dennis J. Summers, 59, of Morgantown, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mon General Hospital surrounded by his family. Dennis was born March 1, 1957 in Morgantown, the son of the late Oscar O. Summers and Mildred Goodwin Summers. He graduated from Morgantown High School in 1975. Dennis enjoyed NASCAR racing and golf but from the early age of twelve his heart was drawn to music. He began playing with his family’s band the “Country and Western Swingers.” In 1980 the band name was changed to the “Knighthawks.” Dennis was a founding member of the Knighthawks. He played countless shows, benefits, and weddings over the course of nearly 50 years. One of his greatest joys in life was playing his guitar, singing, and visiting with everyone who followed the band. His love for the Lord led him to praise and worship ministry at Kingdom Evangelical Methodist Church. Dennis is survived by three brothers and their wives, Danny (Carla) Summers, Darrell (Tina) Summers, Darris (Sharon) Summers; and a sister and her husband, Dottie (Chuck) Fox. He also had many nieces and nephews that were very dear to his heart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kingdom EMC, 540 Fairmont Rd., Morgantown, WV 26501 to be used for “The Lunchbox Ministry” which serves children who are in need at Skyview Elementary. The Summers family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Mon General Hospital 6th floor nursing staff. Friends and family will be received at the Kingdom EMC, 540 Fairmont Rd., Westover, on Thursday, October 6th from 4-8 PM and again on Friday, October 7th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Rev.
