Donald Annonio

Donald Louie Annonio, Sr. (age 91) passed peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at his Morgantown home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on October 17, 1927. Don was a lifelong resident of Morgantown, WV. He served our country in the Army of the United States during World War II. Don met his wife, Faye, in 1948 when he was employed part-time at Peerless Laundry. He worked at Matheson Chemical Company, Sterling Faucet, and Red Star Yeast Company before he purchased Peerless Laundry, along with his sister, Julia Annonio, and brother-in-law, Paul McCord, in 1963. For a while, both of Don’s sons worked alongside him in the business, which he very much enjoyed. Don took great pride during the following decades building a successful business that employed 20+ people and serviced the greater north central West Virginia area. After 36 years of hard work and long days, Don sold Peerless Laundry when he was 72 years old. Don enjoyed his retirement years spending quality time with his wife. Don is survived by his two sons: Donald Louie Annonio, Jr, of Washington, PA, and David Allen Annonio, Sr, of Morgantown; four grandchildren: Ashley Annonio Smelser of Bunker Hill, WV, Donald Louie Annonio, III of Frederick, MD, Hillary Amber Annonio of Hanover, PA, and David Allen Annonio, Jr, of Morgantown; three great-grandchildren: Donald Louie Annonio IV of Portage, PA, and Ross Smelser and Reese Smelser of Bunker Hill, WV; three nieces: Carol (Boyde) Finnin of Aurora, CO, and Janice (McCord) Pride and Elizabeth (McCord) Folks of Morgantown; and one nephew: Harry Boyde of Detroit, MI. Don is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Faye (Wimer) Annonio, who passed away only 2 days earlier. He is also preceded by his parents: Luigi and Elizabeth (Bettina) (Cesta) Annonio; four sisters: Angelina (Annonio) Boyde, Helen (Annonio) McCord, Julia Annonio, and Nancy Annonio; and one brother: Anthony (Tony) Annonio. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, on Tuesday, April 2nd from 6-8 pm and again on Wednesday, April 3rd from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am with Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, STD, VE officiating. Burial will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery privately. Send condolences online at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com
