Donald Wilson Hess

Don “Don Man” Hess, 72, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2026, at his home. He was born on May 28, 1954 in Morgantown, son of the late Virgil Wilson Hess and Gloria Madeline Hess.

He was a 1972 graduate of Morgantown High School and worked at Mylan Pharmaceuticals, eventually retiring after 43 years of service.

Don was always willing to help others by lending a hand or offering a place to stay. He enjoyed hosting friends and neighbors for a beer in his garage while listening to Journey and the Eagles. He was known for his annual birthday cookouts, but never expected gifts. He simply wanted everyone to show up and enjoy themselves. Don was also an avid Dale Earnhardt fan and liked going out for breakfast at various places around town, most recently frequenting iHop.

Don is survived by his sister, Donna Matheny; half-siblings, Sharon Vincent, Jackie Wells, Lynn Steele Russell and Patty Steele (Bill) McCombs; half sister-in-law, Teresa Stacy; niece, Brittany Bradley (Dan Biernacki); nephew, Travis Matheny; along with great nieces and nephews, Payton, Jordin, Brayden, Amayah and Cameron.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his half-brother, Rusty Stacy and nephew, Brett Matheny.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Friday, August 14th from 11:00am until the time of the memorial service at 1:00pm, with Chaplain Craig Falkenstine officiating. Inurnment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
