Edwin "Leo" Darnell

Edwin, "Leo" Darnell, 80, of Morgantown passed peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

Edwin was born on January 22, 1943 the son of the late Edwin R Darnell and Pearl Darnell.

Edwin was a devout servant of the Lord and was always quick to share his faith with deep conversation and a gospel tract. He and his wife were loyal, active members of Faith Baptist church since 1979. He was an avid biker with no fear of the cold and rain, proven by his annual New Years ride. When he wasn't taking the long road to his favorite restaurant, he was a skilled sportsman who never missed a hunting season and was always eager to hit a good fishing hole. He foraged many years and knew the mountains as a second home. In his youth Edwin served in the Army as a tank pilot in the Korean War and carried his love for the armed forces into his civilian life.

Edwin is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Donnie Fay Ellis Darnell. His brother, Barry, son Edwin "Eddie" Darnell Jr and grandchildren Carina Darnell, Nichole Darnell, Jordan Darnell, Joshua Darnell, four great-grandchildren and his beloved companion Skeeter.

In addition to his parents Edwin is preceded in death by his son Ronald "Ronnie" Darnell.

A brief graveside remembrance will be held for close family. The service will be officiated by his brother Pastor Barry Darnell.

In lieu of flowers donations in Edwin's name may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
