George Ray Jenkins

George R Jenkins (Dick), 88 of Adamstown, MD, passed peacefully on August 27, 2026. He was born on January 11, 1938, in Point Marion, Pennsylvania, the son of George R. Jenkins Sr. and Sara (Furman) Jenkins.

Dick graduated from Point Marion High School and attended West Virginia University and Penn State. In 1958, he met his wife, Sandra Shultz, while she was attending nursing school, and they were married on January 23, 1960. Dick proudly served in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman before beginning a long and varied career as a microbiologist, virologist, and project manager with employers including Ohio State University, the National Institutes of Health, the National Naval Medical Center, and the Department of Energy. 

He was an active member of First Union Methodist Church in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, for over 20 years and later attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick, Maryland, after moving to Buckingham's Choice in Adamstown, Maryland. Dick was involved with various charitable organizations, including the Franklin County Shriners Club, Scottish Rite, Masons (Masonic Lodge Chambersburg #143), and he also volunteered his time by serving on various committees.

He is survived by his four daughters, Lisbeth J. O'Brien (Brian), Alison J. Arrowood (Rodger), Lesley J. Leonard (James), and Sarah J. Leonard (Mark); nine grandchildren, Katherine, Austin, Tyler, Emily, Dylan, Thomas, Bradley, Sean, and Jack; and four great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Jensen, Ellianna, and Blake.

He treasured family time at their cabin in West Virginia, summer vacations at the beach and all the grandchildren's sport events. He enjoyed gardening, reading and was an avid follower of the stock market.

A Life Service Celebration will be held on October 9, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, 14205 Pleasant Valley Rd NE, Flintstone, MD 21530.
