Hannah Canfield Lewis, 78, of Morgantown, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025. She was born on March 30, 1947, in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania to James and Ruth Forrest.
A proud graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, Hannah went on to earn her master’s degree in education from California University of Pennsylvania. She dedicated her career to shaping young minds, retiring as a Title I Reading Specialist at Brookhaven Elementary in Morgantown. In every classroom she touched, Hannah left behind not just knowledge, but encouragement, kindness, and a belief in the potential of every child.
Hannah was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Lewis Sr., and her cherished grandson, Alexander James. Though she faced these heartbreaking losses, she carried herself with remarkable grace and strength, always keeping her family close to her heart.
She is survived by her children, Harry Jr. Lewis (April), Kimberly Pataky (Marty), Jayme Lewis, and Kristen Leighty (Brandon), who will forever treasure her love, wisdom, and unwavering support. Hannah will also be remembered by countless former students, colleagues, and friends whose lives were made brighter by her presence.
Hannah will be laid to rest beside her husband at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, West Virginia.
