Hazel Marie Campbell

Hazel M. Campbell, 98, of Morganton, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016, at her home. She was born in Mannington, WV on March 5, 1918; daughter of the late Lloyd and Jessie Stevens. She was a 1936 graduate of Mannington High School. From 1937-1951 she worked for the then Chesapeake and Potomac (C&P) Phone Company as an operator in Fairmont, WV and Baltimore, MD. She also worked as a bookkeeper at her husband’s business, Morgantown Radio-TV shop on High Street, until it closed in 1971 and his other business, Campbell’s Electronics on Richwood Avenue, until they both retired in the early 1980’s. She also worked as an office clerk for the UMWA in the 1970’s. For over 50 years she was an active member of the Drummond Chapel/Suncrest United Methodist Church. She was a loving friend and neighbor. She was compassionate, optimistic and an outstanding listener. On January 25, 1951 she married Paul Campbell, also a 1936 Mannington High School graduate, who preceded her in death on September 20, 2001. She is survived by her three children: Robert and wife Linda Kyle Campbell of Atlanta, Georgia, David and wife Dr. Sharon Glover of Pittsburgh, PA and Linda and husband Dr. Robert Havern of Morgantown as well as a brother Daniel Stevens of Mannington. In addition to her husband Paul, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Bertha Sponaugle and Emma Jean Stevens and a brother Charles Stevens. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, Monday May 30th from 2-5 p.m. Visitation will continue at Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown on Tuesday, May 31st from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tim Halloran officiating. Interment will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
