Listen to Obituary

Heather Katherine Cummings Kirtley, a beloved wife, mother, Nonna, daughter, sister, and friend, went to be with the Lord on September 16, 2026.

Born on December 29, 1977, in Morgantown, West Virginia, Heather was the cherished daughter of Donna and Charlie Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Bonnie Cummings; her grandparents, Paul and Jean Cummings and Donald Bennett and Lorma Bennett Wilhelm.

Heather shared her life with her devoted husband, Craig Kirtley, whom she lovingly called the love of her life. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter. She was the proud mother of Taylor Cummings (Michael Riblett) and Logan Kirtley. Her greatest joy was being "Nonna" to her beloved grandchildren, Mia and Matthias Riblett, who filled her heart with endless pride and happiness.

Heather's family was the center of her world. She is also survived by her siblings, Amy Doyle (James Laird); Felicia (Larry) Giles; Shawn (Rusty) Field; and Rick (Sheila) Walker. She shared a particularly special bond with her Aunt Lori DeSantis, who was like a second mother to her throughout her life.

Known for her compassionate heart and generous spirit, Heather had a deep love for animals and was a passionate advocate for animal rescue. She never hesitated to help an animal in need, and her kindness touched countless lives. Among those dearest to her heart was Chunk, the beloved dog she rescued and treasured as a cherished member of her family.

A special thank you to the nurses and CNA’s on 7 West at Ruby as well as the Hospice staff, they went above and beyond to make Heather and her family comfortable.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Heather's life and the love she shared with so many at Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown, on Saturday, September 19th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kelly Gamble officiating. A private family committal service will take place at a later time at East Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Heather's family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to jennysdreamrescue.org, the organization through which she adopted Chunk and a cause that remained close to her heart. Through this support, Heather's legacy of compassion and care for animals in need will live on.
