Jim MacBride, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016, at Sundale Nursing Home at the age of 98. He was born on July 21, 1918, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late George and Clara (Bartlett) MacBride. Jim graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1948 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. Jim served in WWII as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Artillery. He retired from Sterling Faucet as Quality Control Manager in 1988. Jim was an original member of the Light of Life Prayer Group that started in 1978 at the Good Counsel Friary and continues today at St. John’s University Parish. He and Farther Jude Mili co-led the Prayer Group for many years. Jim attended faithfully for 34 years, rarely missing a meeting until his health prevented it. Jim was a member of St. Luke’s Parish. Jim was an avid golfer and he remembered every hole he played as the men who played regularly with him can attest. Jim is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Marie; daughter, Anne MacBride and husband Paul Kritschgau; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, and Marie. He is survived by nieces, Mary and Debby and nephew, Jim. He was fondly called Pop Pop by his grandchildren. Jim took great delight in beating his grandson in ping pong even while in his 90s. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Martin who passed away only two months ago at the age of 96. They were very close. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff of Evergreen Assisted Living for their compassionate care for Jim in the last 4 years and for the staff of Mon General Hospital, 6th floor and Sundale Nursing Home. In keeping with Mr. MacBride’s wishes cremation services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home The family will receive friends at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 19 Jo Glen Drive, Morgantown, Saturday, September 3rd from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass in celebration of Jim’s life at 10:30a.m.with Father Carlos Melocoton, Jr. as celebrant. A private Inurnment will take place at Beverly Hills Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: St. Francis Central Catholic School, 41 Guthrie Lane, Morgantown, WV 26508.
