James Nelson Wimer, 96, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Somerset, PA. He was born February 9, 1920 in Masontown, WV; Preston County, son of the late William C. Wimer and Lydia Wimer Shumaker. James was a faithful member of Drummond chapel Church (Suncrest UMC). A veteran of World War II, he served from 1942-1945 with the Army/Air Force Ordnance in North Africa, Ital and Norfolk, VA. He graduated from Morgantown Trade School and used his imaginative and creative abilities as a Design/ Machinist for 36 years with the U. S. Bureau of Mines, Dept. of Interior, now the National Energy Technology Laboratory, U. S. Department of Energy. He was a member of the Free Masonry, 32nd degree and of the Independent Order of Odd fellows, Lodge #10. After his retirement, Jim and Juanita traveled with the National Campers & Hikers Association and belonged to the Western Stars Square Dancers. He enjoyed many hobbies but most of all he enjoyed woodworking especially crafting clocks of all sizes. At the age of 92 years, Jim enrolled in the WVU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) further enriching his life with many interesting classes. In May of 2013 he made Heritage Point, Morgantown his home until his death. He was special to all who knew him and especially loved by his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Shaw Wimer, in 2007 ending a marriage of 63 years; his siblings, Bess Pell, Clarence Wimer, Myrtle Kelley and Harry Wimer. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown on Friday, November 25th from 10a.m until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tim Halloran officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
