James Glenn Troy

James Glenn Troy, 89, of Cassville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on April 30, 1931, the youngest son of the late Alva and Mary Troy. After military service in Korea, “Glenn” returned to Cassville where he and Glenda built their home and raised their sons. Family time was precious. Cathedral and Cool Springs were popular Sunday afternoon destinations while Silver Lake was a preferred vacation spot for many years. Once the boys were grown, “Papaw” found great joy watching his granddaughters and, later, their children grow. Glenn stuttered as a young man but was steadfast in his faith and promised God: if you loosen my lips, I’ll speak out for you. He trained as a lay-speaker for the Methodist church and later went on to pastor Message of Christ Tabernacle. “Brother Jim” never met a stranger and loved to sing God’s praises wherever he went. If you listen carefully, you can hear him singing now in God’s heavenly choir: My chains are gone; I’ve been set free. Over the years, Jim worked at Wally Reed’s Esso and Ted’s Auto Electric before retiring from South Middle School. He cherished his nieces and nephews and the many friends he made along the way and he faithfully reminded us: Be not discouraged. With God all things are possible. Cast your care upon Him because He cares for you. He is survived by his wife, Glenda; sons, James M. (Lois) and David G. (Christine) Troy; and granddaughters, Kristy Jecklin and Melissa Hefner and their families. Due to COVID-19, the family will not be holding any public services. Glenn will be laid to rest in Olive Cemetery with a private family graveside service and military honors at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com.
