Jay L. Hunt

Jay L. Hunt, 74, passed away on April 26, 2026, in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was born on November 5, 1951, in Fort Dix, New Jersey to the late Arden Hunt and Virginia (Pratt) Hunt.

Jay was a dedicated and hardworking employee, devoting 27 years of service to the West Virginia University Physical Plant, a testament to his steady work ethic and reliability. After this, Jay spent time as a truck driver.

He had a love for hobby collections, particularly coins and model cars, and enjoyed attending car shows, including the Carlisle Car Show. He was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the West Virginia University Mountaineers. Additionally, Jay had a deep interest in Civil War history, with a particular admiration for the Battle of Gettysburg.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Carolyn (Powell) Hunt; son, Jason Hunt; stepdaughters, Cindy Barnett and Tina (Barnett) Weaver (Victor); six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Billie Jo Johnson (Barnett), and brothers, Abner Thomas "Tommy" Hunt and Arden M. Hunt, Jr.

He leaves behind a family and community who will honor his memory with deep respect and lasting affection.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. on Thursday, April 30th from 5pm-7pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Friday, May 1st from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am with Pastor Nathaniel Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery.
