Joel Watson Holbert, 40, of Morgantown, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 15th, 2026. He was born on October 5th, 1985 in Morgantown, West Virginia.

Joel attended University High School and was a graduate of the West Virginia Junior College. In his youth, Joel loved playing sports and gaming. He went on to become an IT specialist and had worked for many companies in the Morgantown area.

He is survived by his son, Jett Holbert; his parents, Robert and Wilma Holbert; his sister, Rachel Holbert and her partner, Jonny Petak; his nephews, Cody and Ryan Petak and niece, Lily Petak; his sister, Heather Layman; his ex-wife, Jamie Reckart and her children, Brian, Joy, and Abby, whom he helped raise; and many aunts and uncles.

Joel will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. 

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce Street, Morgantown, West Virginia on Saturday, July 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Sunday, July 19th from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Lawrence Rebelo officiating. 

Following the service, the family invites everyone to the Mount Morris Fire Department Hall, 295 Mount Morris Rd, Mt Morris, PA for a luncheon. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia, PO Box 1090, Dellslow, WV 26531.
