John âJackâ R. Hails, Sr., 85, of Collins Ferry Rd, Morgantown, and formerly of Bentleyville, PA, passed away Sunday evening, May 1, 2011, at Monongalia General Hospital.Jack was born in Trauger, PA on September 13, 1925, a son of the late Walter Muir and Gladys (Grigor) Hails.He was a long time member of Rock Forge Presbyterian Church and was very active with the food pantry. Jack taught Physics at Keesler Air Force Base and later was a computer engineer who worked for UNIVAC, helping to design the computer guidance systems used in early space exploration. In retirement, he was an avid gardener and a crossword puzzle guru. Survivors include his second wife, Brenda Devor Thorn Hails and nine children including John Robert Hails and his wife Marion of Fleetwood, PA, Gary Lee Hails and his wife Ann of Las Vegas, NV, Barry Eugene Hails of Reading, PA, Linda Marie Hails Kreider Martinez and her husband Charles of Reading, PA, Bruce Anthony Hails and his wife, Christine of Birdsboro, PA, Camille Ann Thorn Hayhurst and her husband Brett of Rivesville, WV, Donna Jean Hails King and her husband John of Honey Brook, PA, Carol Ann Hails Hums and her husband John of Lake Placid, FL and Patricia Lynn Hails Pancerella and her husband Richard of Hagerstown, MD. Additionally, he is survived by 32 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lola Starr Hails a son, David Hails one brother, Lloyd Hails one sister, Audrey Hails Adams one great-granddaughter, Taylor Hails and one great-grandson, Gabriel Hails.Friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV on Thursday, May 5, from 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, May 6, from 10:30-11:30a.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:30a.m. Interment will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Westover where full military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 548 and WVANG Military Honor Guard, Camp Dawson, Kingwood, WV.
