Johnnie Clarance Howenstein (Himey), 77, of Star City passed away Thursday October 16, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle of cancer. He was in the US Army and employed at Davis and Lynch Glass Factory as a glassblower where he worked until his retirement after 41 years. He was a Captain in the Morgantown Police Reserves. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a longtime member of Mt. Morris Sportsman’s Club and a longtime member the Mt. Morris Assembly of God. He loved spending time with his family and two dogs, Nickie and Cheyenne. He is survived by his wife Jackline (McDonald) Howenstein of 54 years; son John E. Howenstein, Sr. and wife Belinda of Morgantown; daughter Tammy Bland and husband Mark of Morgantown; six grandchildren, Chris Howenstein, John E. Howenstein Jr, Ashley Morgan, Brittany Howenstein, Amber Morgan, and Clarissa Howenstein all of Morgantown; one great granddaughter Mackenzie O’Neil; one brother Herbert Howenstein in Arizona; one sister Erma Reel from Bridgeport and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Herbert Howenstein; an infant brother, Billy; and a son, Steve Howenstein. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice and the Cancer Center at Ruby Memorial Hospital for their care and support. Friends and family will be received at the Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown on Monday, October 20th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Visitation will continue in the funeral home on Tuesday, October 21st from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Fred Tomlinson and Pastor John Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at East Oak Grove Cemetery with full military rites at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 S.
