With profound sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Kurt Brown, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was defined by love, loyalty, hard work, and an unwavering dedication to his family.
For 43 beautiful years, Kurt shared an extraordinary love story with his beloved wife, Sandy. Their love was everlasting—a partnership built on devotion, strength, laughter, and unwavering support through every season of life. Together, they built a home filled with love and created a family that was the center of their world. Their bond was one that many admired and few are fortunate enough to experience. Together, their love and strength carried them through every obstacle, and that love will continue beyond this life.
Kurt was a proud and loving father to Kayla Peters and her husband, Philip Peters, and Kyle Brown. He dedicated his life to providing the best he could for his family and found his greatest accomplishments not in what he achieved for himself, but in the lives of those he loved. He worked tirelessly, sacrificed willingly, and always put his family first.
Nothing brought Kurt greater joy than being "Pap" to his cherished grandchildren: Matthew, Madilyn, Bethany, Benjamin, and Samuel. Each held a special place in his heart, and he made sure they knew it. One of his favorite traditions was giving each grandchild a nickname that reflected the special bond he shared with them. Madilyn was "Peelicious," Matthew was "JuBean," Bethany was "Little Bee," Benjamin was "PeeWee," and Samuel was "Sandwich." These names, spoken with affection and love, became treasured reminders of the unique relationship he shared with each of them.
Kurt also had a special place in his heart for his beloved pets, Ryder and Chase, who brought him companionship, comfort, and joy throughout the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Brown; his children, Kayla Peters and her husband, Philip Peters, and Kyle Brown; his grandchildren, Matthew, Madilyn, Bethany, Benjamin, and Samuel; his sisters, Anjie Votolato and her husband, Ernie; Shelley Black and her husband, Chris; Laura Brown Meyer; his brothers, Jeff Brown and Michael Brown; brother-in-law, Richard Toth; and his beloved nieces and nephews, Lauren, Rachelle, Jeffrey Jr., Silas, Hannah, Mitch, Griffin, Andy, Corey, Reagan, and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Brown, and his parents, Carole and Douglas White.
Family was at the center of Kurt's life. Even with loved ones spread throughout the United States, they were never far from his thoughts. While distance sometimes made visits less frequent than in years past, not a day went by that he did not share a story, memory, or laugh about one of his brothers, sisters, or family members. The love he carried for them never faded, and the bonds they shared remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Kurt was a hardworking man whose character was shaped by strong convictions about right and wrong. His integrity, loyalty, and unwavering sense of responsibility earned the respect of everyone who knew him. If you were fortunate enough to be called his friend, you remained his friend for life. Once a friend, always a friend was a principle he lived by.
A talented drummer and passionate music lover, Kurt brought rhythm, joy, and energy wherever he went. Music was one of his greatest passions, and through it he created memories that will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him. He was also a fabulous cook who took great pride in being the family's grill master. Whether preparing a meal for a family gathering or standing behind the grill, he found joy in taking care of us all. Another of Kurt's greatest loves was his cherished Grand National, a source of pride and enjoyment that reflected his personality and passion. Whether behind a drum set, tending the grill, or behind the wheel of his Grand National, Kurt was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
Throughout his life, Kurt faced challenges that would have tested anyone's strength. Yet time and time again, he persevered with courage, determination, and grace. To his family, he was a hero—not because he was perfect, but because he never stopped fighting for the people he loved. His strength, resilience, and unwavering devotion inspired all who knew him.
Kurt was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Our lives will never be the same without him, but we will forever carry his stories, his laughter, his wisdom, his music, and his love in our hearts. His legacy lives on in his family, his friendships, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
We will always remember the music he brought into our lives, the meals he shared around the table, the stories he loved to tell, and the unconditional love he gave so freely. Though he is no longer with us, his song will continue to play in our hearts forever.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St. Morgantown, on Wednesday, June 17th from 3pm-7pm.
