Mark Lewis Schuweiler, 77, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 in Morgantown, WV. Mark was born on August 27, 1948, in Frankfurt, Germany, where his parents, Mary and Mel Schuweiler, were stationed after WWII.
Mark graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA in history. However, his future took another path which led to a successful career as a hospital equipment planner. He eventually was CEO of his own Healthcare Equipment Planning and Consulting Business providing services to the US, Canada, Cyprus and Taiwan. He finished his professional career as a Computer Security Officer with Hewlett Packard.
He lived in Northern Virginia most of his life before marrying Jacqueline Mier and moving to Morgantown, West Virginia, in 2015. Mark was loved by his family, friends and many in the community, both in Morgantown, throughout the country, and abroad.
Mark took joy in bicycling the rail trails in Virginia and Morgantown. He loved traveling with his wife, Jackie, and the past few years, he delighted spending time at their place in Carvoeiro, Portugal. He was often found cooking gourmet meals and baking bread as many will attest. He enjoyed relaxing on his back deck, listening to jazz with a brewski or bourbon and Fluffy cat on his lap. He was a movie buff and most evenings ended with he and Jackie watching one of his favorite movies. Mark was very proud of his six grandchildren and took great pleasure in seeing them grow up and blossom and buying their Christmas and birthday gifts. He loved picking the perfect present.
Mark had a passion for computers and computer programming which spawned his career as a healthcare equipment planner. He even researched and completed a comprehensive family genealogy and developed his own family’s personal recipe program. He loved vegetable gardening and as a young man hiking the trails of VA and WV. He was often found reading, particularly history, current events and social justice. The New Yorker and the New York Review were favorites and litter the room still. He was politically active beginning with the Vietnam War protests to the current No Kings marches.
He is survived by the love of his life, Jacqueline Mier; daughters, Sarah (Andrew) Zinn of Bristol, VA, Kristen (Nicholas) Alberts of Fountain, CO; stepdaughter, Maya Mier-Thomas of Morgantown, WV; six grandchildren, Riley Jade, James, Katie, Camden, Eden and Josiah; his brother, Robert Schuweiler (Virginia) of Everett, WA; and his sister, Zan Schuweiler (Harry Boone) of Atlanta, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local non-profit Friends of Decker’s Creek where Jackie gardened and Mark volunteered with the Make It Shine Days. Visit their website at www.deckerscreek.org
