Marlena Dawn Sloan

Marlena Dawn Sloan, 44, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Marlena came into this world just as she left it, unexpectedly and too soon. She was born two months early on August 4, 1981 to Butch & Susan Stump of Morgantown. She was strong willed and determined with a quiet strength that always managed to persevere.

Marlena was a 1999 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to live her life caring for others. She was a teacher of children, a caregiver to the elderly and those with special needs and a helper to those on their recovery journey, while battling her own. Her magnetic spirit and infectious laugh would light up any room while her giving heart often meant she cared for others more than herself.

It is impossible to capture all that Marlena was and loved, but in short; she was an avid Philadelphia Eagles & WV Mountaineer fan who loved the sun, the beach, music, board games and above all else she loved her family and friends. Her kids and her grandkids were her world.

In addition to her parents, Marlena is survived by her husband of 17 years, Ronald Sloan, daughter Alyvia Stump, sons Jordan and Blake Sloan, grandchildren Paxton, Jakai and Nakari, sister Jennifer Stump Goff (Ben Goff), niece and nephew Anna and Everett Goff as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

Marlena was preceded in death by many cherished family members and friends, but more recently her aunt Janet Forbes, who she referred to as, “her person.”

Marlena’s light, love and laughter will radiate in our lives as we continue to celebrate hers. She will be forever missed.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Sunday, September 14, 2025 for visitation with the family from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. There will be no formal funeral service. Following the visitation, cremation services will be provided.
