Mary Bolling

Mary Nan Bolling, 93, formerly of Heritage Point in Morgantown, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown, WV. She was born in Hinton on November 3, 1922, the daughter of the late John Oliver Knapp and the late Mary (Meadows) Knapp. Mary was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bolling received her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree from West Virginia University. She worked for many years at LaVale UMC, and as a volunteer for the hospice unit at Sacred Heart Hospital. Mary was a Media Specialist at Bruce High School in Westernport, MD until her retirement. She is survived by three nephews and spouses, Lieutenant Colonel William Preaskorn and Cathy of Vienna, VA., Thomas Preaskorn and Diane of LaVale, MD and James Peaskorn and Wende of Bridgeport, WV. Her nephews were the source of her tremendous pride. E ach one sought and received a commission as a rated officer, and each earned pilot wings from his respective branch of service. The veteran aviator brothers’ combat and longevity in service combined for a total of over 60 years, and Aunt Nan could not have been more proud of them. She thought of them as the sons she never had. Together with their spouses, all veterans as well, and the many grand nieces and nephews, she rejoiced the family with whom God blessed her She leaves behind many friends who admired her independence and courage in the face of terminal illness. She adored her many grand nieces and nephews. She was especially proud of her heritage as a WVU Mountaineer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John M. Bolling; her brother, Dr. John O. Knapp her sister and brother-in-law Peg and James Preaskorn; and step-mother Mrs. Gladys Knapp. A graveside service will be held at East Oak Grove Cemetery on Thursday, May 5 at 1:30pm with Dr. Randy Flanagan officiating.
