Maxine Moore Kendall, 92 years young, departed this life, Sunday June 21. She will forever be remembered as a gentle, loving soul. She was born on June 27, 1928 to Estelle Gross Moore & George W. Moore of Philippi, WV. She graduated from Philippi High School and married Gerald J. Kendall, of Morgantown in September 1946. Besides being a homemaker, she had several jobs, eventually retiring as Assistant Director of the Morgantown Senior Center. She enjoyed the many travels she experienced with them. Maxine was an avid reader and talented seamstress. She loved all children and her signature butterflies. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and David Dorsey, with whom she made her home in Morgantown. Known as beloved. "Grammy" to her grandchildren and their friends, she is also survived by grandson, Peter K. Christoff of Houston, TX and Nicole E. Christoff of Portland, OR. She is also survived by great grandchildren Seamus and Miles Christoff of Houston and Elliana Skourtes of Portland, and many nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Lora Prisock of Greensboro, NC and Laura Morgan of Stuart, FL. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as sisters, Hazel Freeman of Philippi, Evelyn Cottrill of Morgantown, Mildred Allen of Belington, and Virginia Stansbury of Akron, Ohio. Thank you to all those who, in the selfless tradition of Maxine, sent birthday wishes. They were much appreciated. Arrangements are being handled by Hastings Funeral Home. There will be no service at this time. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
