Okey Dalton

Okey Dalton, 78, lifelong resident of the Kingwood Pike, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Mon Health Center. He was born August 27, 1940, in Morgantown, son to the late Solomon “Boot” & Sadie Mae Dalton. Okey was a local businessman for over 40 years. He was co-owner of Dalton Bros. Lumber and Mountainview Lumber along with his brother Orville (Dill) Dalton. Okey’s love for timbering was instilled in him as a young boy by is father. That family love for timbering has been passed down through his son and grandson. He also owned and operated O&D Enterprises, through which he provided many years of snow removal for local businesses thought out the Morgantown area. Okey was a lifetime member of the Cool Springs VFD, where he held the position of Fire Chief for 15 years. He was also affiliated with the Valley District Fair in Reedsville, where he volunteered countless numbers of hours. He was an avid racing fan. Okey could always be found at a racetrack near or far. Okey never met a stranger and would help anyone in any way that was needed. He loved to hang out at the Cools Springs Grocery with some of his closest friends to socialize. He was a Methodist by faith. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara “Mammie” Hilling Dalton; one son, Darrin “Bulldog” and spouse, Sherri Dalton; daughter, Tracy and spouse, Jimmy Lipscomb, all of Morgantown; daughter, Lea Ann and companion, Nicole Ward of Wheeling; his grandchildren: Deanna “Monkey” Dalton and fiancé, John Jones, Jeffery “Jeffy” Cole, and Devon “Hammer” Ward; and great grandson, Chance “Little Monkey” Dalton. He is also survived by his sisters: Ruby Kessler, Velma McDonald, Patty Hilling, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his pet Chihuahuas, Angel and Bo, whom he dearly loved. In addition to his parents, Solomon and Sadie Mae Dalton, he was preceded in death by his in laws, Stanley and Lorraine Hilling; 5 brothers; and 6 sisters. The family would like to thank Mon Health Medical Center for the wonderful care he received. A very special thank you to nurse Ellie Strahin for the compassionate case and support she gave to Okey and the family. Family and friends will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., on Saturday, Feb. 9th, from 3-8 p.m. and again on Sunday, Feb. 10th, from 5-8 p.m. On Monday, Feb. 11, Okey will be moved to Mount View Free Methodist Church where he will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. with Pastors Francis Craker and Donna Dalton officiating.
