Paul Wade Mayfield

Paul Wade Mayfield, 97, of Morgantown, died peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, July 27, 2020. He was born May 21, 1923 in Morgantown, a son of the late Spencer Wade and Merele (Utt) Mayfield. Paul lived his life with honesty, humor and integrity. He began working in the coal mines at age seventeen and retired from GE Chemical as a corporate buyer. After retirement he and his wife Betty enjoyed their winters in Marco Island Florida. Always putting family first wasn't a motto for Paul but one of his defining loving principles. Paul, a proud mountaineer, brightened a room with his quick wit and one liners. If he commented on your weight the family apologizes. He was a member of Joseph W. Summers Lodge #173 AF&AM and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. Paul is the last surviving member of his immediate Mayfield family. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Mayfield Yoke; grandchildren, Stephanie Mayfield, Amy Heyman, Dr. Kristen Farling, and Jay Yoke; great grandchildren, Heather Johnson, Emma Heyman, and Madison Heyman; great grandchildren, Hannah and Carlee Johnson; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Mayfield. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Blaney) Mayfield, who died in 2011; son, Ronald Mayfield; and son-in-law, James Yoke. Paul's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Bethania Assisted Living, his sweethearts, Rose and Mrs. E. Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown has been entrusted with arrangements. A private family funeral service will be held with interment to take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.hastingsfuneralhome.com
