Philip Edbert (Phil) Harner, 77, of Morgantown, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012 at his residence.Phil was born in Morgantown on July 18, 1935, the son of the late Philip Ewing Harner and the late Florence Idella (Smith) Harner.Phil graduated from Morgantown High School in 1953 and worked at a local glass factory until he joined the Marines that year. He was a Marine sergeant during the Korean War. He owned and operated a dairy on the Aaronâs Creek Rd. for 29 years, while also operating a farm equipment business, Mountaineer Supply and Equipment Co. on the Green Bag Rd. He was Outstanding Young Farmer for WV in 1964 before retiring to beef farming.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Margaret Morris Harner (Peggy) son Danny Alan Harner and wife Sue (Suz) daughters, Dr. Phyllis Jean (PJ) Neer and husband Ken, Regenia Renee Williamson, Kathleen Sue Hall, and Debra Diane Lake and companion Mike Keener all of Morgantown. Grandchildren, Travis Harner, Jessica Harner Buda, Lucas Harner, Timothy Evanoff, Jennifer Neer, Jason Hart, Kevin Williamson, Jr., Gavin Hall, Whitley Hall, Erica Edmiston, and Nicholas Lake plus 12 Great-Grandchildren one brother Richard Harner, and two sisters Martha Lou Thompson, Jean Wilburn and husband Elwood. Also, Dayton Wayne Wiles, who was like a son to him, his wife Della and family. He was preceded in death by both parents and an infant sister, Sandy.Special thanks from the family to his nurse Lisa Munnel for her excellent care of Phil and the doctors and staff of Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center, also to Jimmy Sickles, friends, and neighbors for their support and help.Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., on Tuesday, September 25, from 3-5PM and 7-9PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, September 26, from 9-11AM. At Philâs request no services will be held.
