Phyllis Uleda Gibson, 92, of Morgantown, WV, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

Phyllis was born on November 4, 1933, a daughter of the late George and Irma Walls.

She was a proud founding member of Cheat Lake United Methodist Church and served over 43 years. She enjoyed singing in the church’s choir and working many of their social and fundraising events. She truly loved that church! She also served in the West Virginia Extension Homeowners Organization (CEOS) and was Monongalia County Belle at the West Virginia Sate Folk Festival in 2009. As President of the Bruceton Alumni Association, she oversaw the development and completion of an all-inclusive high school “yearbook” containing pictures of every graduating class. Another true joy that lasted over 30 years was delivering Meals on Wheels.

When she wasn’t volunteering in her community she could always be found attending her sons’ sporting events from grade school through college and beyond. Once they aged out, she continued attending the sporting events of her grandchildren. Phyllis was a very loyal woman and for as long as she was able - she showed up!

Phyllis loved to garden and had plenty of flowers around her house to tend to. Everyone was welcome in her home, and she especially looked forward to visits from her 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Holidays were packed full of wonderful memories and time with family and friends with many games played at the dining room table.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Dallas “Dale” Gibson in 2008, her youngest son Richard who helped care for her up until the time of his passing October 18, 2025, and brother-in-law Charles Mitchell in 2013.

In addition to the 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, Phyllis is survived by her son Larry (Connie), son David (Ruth), Daughter-in-Law Roxanna, sister Vera Mitchell, brother Gary Walls, a niece, 4 nephews and several cousins.

A special thank you to the hospice team at Amedisys for providing her with weekly nursing care visits since March of 2025 – she looked forward to seeing you, except for the bathing! A double special thank you goes to her son David and granddaughters Lauren and Amber who gave her round the clock care the last three months so she could stay in her home. A promise was made to her years ago to please allow her to live out her days at home and that promise was kept.

Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Tuesday, February 3rd from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 4th from 10:00am until the time of funeral service at 11:00am with Pastor Shawn Weaver officiating. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery at a later time.
