Ryan Michael Brooks

Ryan Michael Brooks, 38, passed away on June 4, 2025. He was born on October 3, 1986, in Morgantown, a son to Michael Brooks and Alisa Staley Peterson. Ryan was a man of integrity and kindness and was always helping those in need. He had a great heart that endeared him to family and friends alike.

Ryan had a diverse career journey. In his younger years, he worked as a handyman alongside his beloved grandfather, developing skills that would serve him well throughout his life. He later became a coal miner, a testament to his strong work ethic. He eventually became self-employed, demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit.

He was a proud graduate of Morgantown High School and attended West Virginia University. He was an avid WVU fan who rooted passionately for the Mountaineers. Ryan’s interests extended beyond sports; he had a fondness for thrifting and treasure hunting, often spending time at flea markets in search of memorabilia that held meaning or history.

He is survived by his son, KC Brooks, and KC's mother, Claire Hern Brooks of St. Augustine, FL; his mother, Alisa Staley Peterson, and stepfather, Chuck of Vacaville, CA; his father, Michael Brooks, and stepmother, Irma, of Valdosta, GA; siblings, Logan and Lyndsay; his grandmother, Peggy Brooks of Morgantown; grandfather, Harvey Brooks of Arlington, VA; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins whose lives he touched deeply.

Ryan was preceded in death by his grandfather, Brinley "Pap" Staley, and grandmother, Marjorie "Gram" Staley, both of whom he held dear in his heart.

As we remember Ryan Michael Brooks, we celebrate a life filled with love, compassion, and a spirit that will remain in our hearts forever.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ryan’s life at Morgantown Bible Church, 1407 Brookhaven Rd., Morgantown, on Tuesday, June 10th beginning at 5:00pm, with Pastor Jim Cooley officiating.
