Sandra Kay (Kiess) Lewis, age 70, of Morgantown, WV passed away unexpectedly at home Tuesday morning, February 7, 2017. Sandy was the daughter of the late Levi Clyde and Freda Fincham Kiess born September 29, 1946 in Adolph, WV. June 1, 1969, she married Paul Edward Lewis, who survives in Morgantown, WV. She is survived by one son, Chad Edward Lewis and his fiancée, Ashley Sjoman, who reside in Morgantown. Also surviving are one brother, Melvin D. Kiess (Carla); three sisters Pamela F. Rosencrance (Grover), Candace R. Shrader (Steve), and Kathryn D. Stalnaker (Wilson) and sister-in-law Sharon (Kiess) Blosser (Jim). In addition, she is survived by in-laws, Bud Lewis (Shirley); Linda McCollam (Bill); Samp Lewis( Brenda); Bob Dewitt; Sue Lewis; Dora (Lewis) Liggett; Agnes Lewis; and one godchild Marleah Knights. Preceding her in death was one brother William “Chriss” Kiess; sister-in-laws Lillian Dewitt; Donna (Stalnaker) Brant, and Betty Lewis; and brother-in-laws: Charles, Glenn, Guy and Harry Lewis and Wilson H. Stalnaker. Sandy graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in 1964. She continued her education at WVU, earning a Bachelor’s in Family Resources/Education, Magna Cum Laude, in 1973, and her Masters in Adult Education and Counseling at Lincoln University in 1979. While pursuing her education, she worked at C&P Telephone Company, Columbia Gas, and Monongahela Power Company. During her professional career, she was the Coordinator of High Risk Freshman Program at Davis & Elkins College; Developmental Advising Specialist at the University Advising Center at WVU; Career Counselor at the Career Services Center at WVU; teacher/counselor at the Mountaineer Challenge Academy, Teacher at Monongalia County School; and a Real Estate Agent with Old Colony Reality of Morgantown. Sandy was a Methodist by faith and very active with her church and community through the years. Her most notable attribute in life was her love of people and the gift of sharing and giving of herself to others. She had a special ability to interact and communicate her love and enthusiasm for life. Other enjoyable interests included interior decorating; flower gardening, reading and raising Brittany Spaniels with Paul. Sandy especially loved her nieces and nephews and always made them feel exceptional and unique. Friends and family will be received at Suncrest United Methodist Church in Morgantown on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 12 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 1 PM. A second Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Elkins, Wednesday , February 15, 2017; visitation at Noon and service at 1:00 PM Rev. Basil Hensley officiating.
