Shirley Ann Lewis

Listen to Obituary

On Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Shirley Ann (Cole) Lewis finished her earthly journey and walked into the welcoming arms of her Savior. She was born on February 18, 1939, to the late Henry Clay Cole and Pearl Ealene Palmer.

Shirley was a lifelong resident of Summer School Road. She attended Morgantown High School and later earned a degree as a medical assistant from Fairmont State. She retired from WVU Medicine, where she found great fulfillment in working in the healthcare system and demonstrated a deep dedication to helping others.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Shirley was a devoted Methodist. Her faith was an important part of her life and guided the love and compassion she showed to those around her.

Shirley enjoyed crocheting, sewing, working puzzles, and especially loved watching game shows. She was also an excellent cook and a talented seamstress, sharing her many gifts with family and friends. Her kitchen and her home were places where love was expressed through the meals she prepared and the things she lovingly made for others.

Above all, Shirley was known for her selflessness and unwavering devotion to her family. Her greatest joy was her children: Dwain R. Lewis, Michelle J. Shockley (William), Melanie E. Groves (Matthew), and Gregory M. Lewis (Bobbie). She also leaves behind grandchildren, Amber D. Offutt (Kevin), Brandi R. Ambrose (Robert), Courtney D. Lewis, Aaron S. Lewis (Emily), Austen S. Lewis (Elizabeth), Tyler Offutt, Jordan E. Groves, Sarah and Brae Lynn Lewis; great-grandchildren, Blake Ambrose, Oliver Ambrose, Jasper Ambrose, JaSean Echols, Paisley Tritchler, Brantley Tritchler, Skyleigh Lewis, Adonis Lewis, Ava Lewis, Wyatt Lewis, and Ember Lewis; as well as several nieces and nephews, all of whom were part of the family she loved so dearly.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Robert R. Lewis, and a grandson, Thomas Groves.

Shirley will be remembered for her kind heart, her generous spirit, her faith, and the love she gave so freely. The memories she created, the traditions she carried on, and the care she showed to others will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched.

Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery, 1326 Summer School Road, Morgantown on Saturday, October 31, 2026 beginning at 3:00pm with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Amedisys Hospice for the care, compassion, and support provided to Shirley and her family.
