Steven Andrew Munro, affectionately known to his family and friends as Steve, passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 71, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
Born in Burlington, VT, on October 26, 1953, to the late Richard Munro and Gloria Head, Steve grew up in Syracuse, NY. He attended West Genesee High School and went on to Aurora University in Aurora, IL, where he double-majored in mathematics and physical education, also playing on the college basketball team. He furthered his education at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, earning his master’s degree in computer science.
Steve was a respected figure in the Morgantown community, serving as the network administrator for the West Virginia Geological Survey and the proud owner of West View Tennis Center. His love for tennis was evident in his passion for both playing and teaching the sport. Beyond the court, Steve was an avid baseball fan, a dedicated marathon runner, and a passionate traveler who embraced learning about diverse cultures and people. Above all, he cherished time spent with his beloved wife, Linda, and his two children, Elizabeth and Alex.
Known for his laughter and compassion, Steve was admired by all who knew him. At West View Tennis Center, his motto, "all about the people," truly defined his approach. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and the entire tennis community.
Steve is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Elizabeth and Alex; his stepmother, Karolan Munro; his sister, Laurie Packer, and her husband, Alan Packer; his niece, Kayla Packer Anderson, and her husband, Kirk Anderson; his nephew, Adam Packer, and his wife, Emily Packer; his nephew, Charlie Packer, and his wife, Irina Packer; his brother, Scott Munro; and the children of his niece and nephews.
