Thomas Henry Sal, 75, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, October 21st at Mon General Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born December 23, 1940 in Morgantown, the son of the late Julius Ted and Beatrice Wilson Sal. Husband, father, grandfather, accountant, financial professional, United States Marine, hunter, fisherman, storyteller, blueberry picker, avid gardener, WVU fan, and friend, advisor and confidante to many, Tom lived a rich, full life where he spread the seeds of kindness and generosity to all who knew him. Tom was born and raised in Morgantown, and never hesitated to share memories of his childhood antics with eager listeners. He was a graduate of Morgantown High School, where he was on the football and wrestling teams. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of Corporal and accumulating a lifetime supply of engaging stories about his tour. Tom formerly worked as an assistant manager at Beaumont Glass, where he learned the art of making handblown glass. He attended and graduated from West Virginia University, then began work for Mike Vecchio, CPA. He also taught classes at the West Virginia Business College (now known as West Virginia Junior College). He went on to co-found Badger and Sal CPA and Financial Advisor, where he remained a partner until his death. He attended Suncrest United Methodist Church with his family. Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet Martin Sal; daughters, Natalie Jo Sal and her husband Brian Hill of Morgantown and Melanie S. Sal Pastorius and her husband Bill of Buckhannon; grandchildren, Braedyn and Rachael Hill and Rebecca and William Pastorius; brothers and sisters in law, James Spiroff of Morgantown, William Kenneth and Judy Martin of Fairmont, Joe and Kathleen Daristotle of Fairmont, and Rhonda Seccuro of Fairmont. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Sue Spiroff; and mother and father in law, William Russell and Mary Lee Martin. Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Monday, October 24th from 4-8 PM. Visitation will continue at Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Rd, Morgantown, on Tuesday, October 25th from 10 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM with Rev. Tim Halloran officiating. Interment will take place at Lawnwood Cemetery with full military graveside rites being conducted.
