Thomas Paul Rogers, 93, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026 at Mon Health Medical Center. He was born on December 29, 1932, the son of the late Paul and Kathryn (Algers) Rogers.
He attended Morgantown High School before graduating from Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, Massachusetts. He went on to attend Yale University and later earned his degree from West Virginia University College of Pharmacy, where he was an active member of the Phi Si fraternity. After college, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1958 1958 earning the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG).
Thomas was fixture in the local business community, working alongside his mother, Kathryn owning and operating Rogers Pharmacy for many years. He later transitioned into the retail greeting card industry alongside his brother-in-law, Jay Johnson, operating House of Cards until Jay's retirement. After that, Thomas and his wife, Janet started Thoughtfulness Incorporated, where they continued to operate successful greeting card businesses nationwide until Thomas's retirement at age 76.
Throughout his life, Thomas served on numerous boards and civic and financial organizations, including the board of directors for Mon Health Medical Center (Mon General Hospital), First National Bank, Huntington Bank, and Centra Bank. He also supported local arts and education, serving on the board for the West Virginia Public Theatre and contributing to various West Virginia University foundations.
Outside of his professional and civic pursuits, he lived a vibrant, active life. He and his wife, Janet, shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. They loved entertaining and hosting family and friends, as well as traveling around the world. They were especially proud of their collections of antiques and artwork which they brought back from all over the world. Thomas enjoyed playing tennis, snow skiing, playing bridge, and cherishing time with those he loved most.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Paul Griffith “Griff” Rogers and his wife Kristan, John Martin Rogers and his wife Catherine; daughter, Mary Louise Rogers and her longtime partner, Steve; grandchildren, Thomas Rogers, Daniel Rogers, and Taylor Riffle and her husband, Hunter; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Tate, and Judy; nieces and nephews, Jay Paul Johnson and his wife Dawn, Katie Johnson Brown and her husband, Dean; cousins, George Stewart and his longtime partner, Patty Orr; as well as his goddaughter, Vicki (Comer) Hoover and her husband, Brian.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet Griffith Rogers; and sister, Mary Ann Johnson.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown on Monday, October 12th from 5-8pm. Visitation will continue at Wesley United Methodist Church, 503 N High St, Morgantown on Tuesday, October 13th from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am with Rev. Michael Burge officiating. A private family interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery.
