Timothy Stephen Oleksa, 73, of Gaithersburg, MD passed away Tuesday May 6, 2025, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD surrounded by loved ones. Tim was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Tim cherished his family deeply and valued the strong bonds he shared with his loved ones throughout his life.
Tim was born in Morgantown, WV, on December 13, 1951, and was the son of the late Stephen Oleksa Jr. and Doris Jean (Reed) Oleksa. Tim is survived by daughters Jamie Lynn Oleksa, Laura Oleksa Knesel (Brian) and grandchildren Harper, Brooks, Zoe and Avery Knesel. Additionally, he is survived by sister Pamela Livengood (Willis), brother David Oleksa (Kathy), sister CherylAnn Oleksa Cummings (Bill), brother Jeffrey Oleksa, former spouse Nancy, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews who will all miss him immensely.
He was a 1970 graduate of Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD. He first worked as an apprentice electrician at Redwood Electric in Beltsville, MD. In 1977, he began his career at the US Postal Service, where he befriended many people whom he often referred to as his “postal family”. He retired from the USPS in 2018 but later returned as a contractor in 2019 where he worked until his passing.
Tim will be remembered by those who knew him for his love of classic cars and oldies music. He always made time for his loved ones, and he found joy in being with his family and friends. As the life of the party, he was always cracking jokes and never failed to put a smile on someone’s face and make them feel welcomed. When he wasn’t spending his time with his daughters or grandchildren, he would often visit family in Morgantown, where he loved to relax and unwind from city life.
Friends and family will be received at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, on Wednesday, May 14th from 4-7 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, May 15th at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Parish, 1 Guthrie Ln, Morgantown, from 10 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM with Rev. Msgr. Anthony Cincinnati, S.T.D., as celebrant. Interment at East Oak Grove Cemetery will follow the mass.
