Verna Mae Edgell

Verna Mae Edgell age 98, of the Halleck Road, Morgantown, went into the loving arms of Jesus, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at her home away from home Martha's Manor.

She was born July 6, 1925, in Connellsville, Pa. a daughter of the late Frank Fleming Barbour and Ruth Weaver Barbour.

She was a graduate of Morgantown High School, a homemaker, a loving Mother and Grandmother. She attended Summers Methodist Church and Bethel Baptist Church, where she was the pianist at both.

Verna retired as cook and Housemother from Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity after forty plus years. Her time there with "her multiple boys" were some of her happy years, taking care of "her boys"

She is survived by one son and spouse, John Edward Edgell (Jack) and Nancy of Morgantown, one daughter-in-law Linda Edgell of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Herbert David Edgell, III, Pamela Edgell Smith, and Marie Hayhurst all of Morgantown; and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert David Edgell Sr. on November 12, 1992; one son Herbert David Edgell II and one brother John Barbour.

The family wishes to thank Martha's Manor and the wonderful family she obtained there. Leslie Downey, Julie Culp and Kelly Heldreth for the wonderful care and love Verna was given over the past four and a half years.

Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home, 153 Spruce St., Morgantown, WV on Monday, September, 18th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and on Tuesday, September 19th from 10:00 until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Marshall Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
