Walter Smith

Walter Blaine Smith, 86, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Madison Center in Morgantown following a long illness. He was born February 22, 1933, in Big Bend WV, the son of David Orr Smith and Sophia Maude Snyder Smith. Walter was a member of the Harner Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgantown. He resided and worked for many years in Mountain View, CA, returning to reside in Morgantown in 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Kessler of Fairmont and son, Gary B. Smith of Westover; one brother, Robert David Smith of Florida; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Adrian Smith, and wife, Mardeen C. Smith. The family would like to thank WVU Hospital, Care Partners, Madison Center, and Amedisys Hospice for the compassionate care Walter received during his lengthy illness. Following Walter's wishes, cremation services are being handled by Hastings Funeral Home. Friends and family will be received for graveside services at Lawnwood Cemetery, Madigan Ave., Morgantown on Sunday, November 17th at 4 PM with Pastor Lynda Masters officiating.
